Educational Courses

As a certified American Heart Association Training Center we can offer you or your company a wide variety of training to suit your needs. We train both healthcare providers and non-healthcare providers. Our programs can accommodate small or large groups. Classes can be conducted at our training center or at your location.

The great part about coming to Lancaster EMS for training is Training Center faculty staff members. We are emergency responders so your training comes from very experienced professionals who practice what they teach.

BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR)

    The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers class provides information on adult, pediatric and infant CPR, including two-rescuer scenarios, the use of mouth-to-mask, and bag-valve mask. The class also covers automated external defibrillation for adults and children, foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious), special resuscitation situations, and other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

    This course is designed primarily for healthcare professionals in emergency departments, intensive care units, critical care departments, surgical areas, or pre-hospital environments, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency. The ACLS Provider course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest, symptomatic bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia, acute coronary syndrome, and acute ischemic stroke.

    The ACLS Study Guide and pretest will be e-mailed to you following registration for your ACLS class. If your license or background has not provided you with ECG or Pharmacology training and application, or if you need to review and expand your knowledge, we suggest that you complete an ECG & Pharmacology class prior to taking ACLS for successful completion.

PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support

    Designed for pediatricians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, emergency physicians, and other healthcare providers who care for infants and children, the PALS course teaches participants:

    • to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest

    • strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children

    • skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.

PEARS – Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization

Updated to reflect the 2010 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC, PEARS® helps healthcare providers develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of seriously ill infants and children. PEARS teaches providers how to recognize respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider. The goal of PEARS® is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid

    This class is designed for anyone who might need to respond to a Pediatric First Aid Emergency. The class shows individuals how to manage a pediatric injury or illness until professional help arrives. Participants will receive training in First Aid Basics, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, Environmental Emergencies and Administering First Aid with the use of CPR and AED. Ideal for child care providers, teachers, coaches, etc.

Heartsaver CPR

    Heartsaver CPR is a classroom course that teaches basic CPR skills such as performing a head tilt-chin lift , giving compressions and breaths, and calling your emergency response number (or 911). The program teaches Adult/Child CPR, Adult/Child Choking, and offers optional modules in Infant CPR and choking, Adult/Child CPR with mask, andInfant CPR with mask. This class is designed for employee training for:

    • First responders
    • Individuals needing credentialed training for job or regulatory requirements
    • Select departments or an entire workplace

Heartsaver AED

    Heartsaver AED is a classroom course that teaches basic CPR and AED skills such as giving CPR to an infant, child or adult, Using an automated External Defibrillator (AED), Using a mask or barrier device.

Heartsaver First Aid

    This course designed to meet OSHA regulations and teach basic first aid skills such as stopping bleeding that can be seen, helping someone with a possible broken bone or sprain, helping someone who is having an allergic reaction, and making sure the scene is safe. The course covers Adult first aid (first aid basics, medical emergencies and injury emergencies with an optional environmental emergency module).

    • Individuals needing credentialed training for job or regulatory requirements

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens

    Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course is a classroom course that teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction. AHA’s course uses the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) and slogan, “Make a PACT, Know How to Act,” to help students learn and easily recall bloodborne pathogens training.

    Students learn how to:

    • Protect themselves from exposure to bloodborne pathogens
    • Act when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
    • Clean themselves and the area when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
    • Tell or report any exposure to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
